Your Questions, Answered

  • An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is the highest credential in lactation care. An IBCLC is a clinical healthcare professional specializing in the biology of breastfeeding and chestfeeding.

To earn this credential, I completed a rigorous foundation in health science, including university-level courses in Anatomy, Physiology, Biology, and Human Development. This clinical background, combined with 90+ hours of lactation specific training and over 500 hours of supervised clinical practice, allowed me to sit for the comprehensive global board exam, which must be passed before certification is granted.

To ensure I provide the most current, evidence-based care, I am required to maintain my certification through continuous professional development. This involves completing extensive continuing education and regularly reporting these credentials to the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) for audit and verification. This rigorous process ensures that the support you receive is always safe and aligned with the latest clinical research.

You can verify my certification here on the IBLCE public registry. My certification # is: L-319835.

  • I provide in-home feeding support tailored to the unique needs of your family. My clinical services focus on:

    • Latching & Comfort: Resolving painful latches, nipple trauma, and positioning struggles.

    • Supply & Strategy: Management for low milk supply, engorgement, and the transition towards gentle weaning.

    • Clinical Concerns: Guidance for managing mastitis symptoms, plugged ducts, and thrush.

    • Oral Anatomy: Assessment and collaborative support for tongue and lip ties.

    • Beyond the Breast/Chest: Navigating bottle preference, professional flange fittings, and sustainable plans for returning to work.

If you are unsure whether my expertise is the right fit for your specific circumstances, I encourage you to book a complimentary Connection Call or reach out via the contact form on my homepage. I am always happy to discuss how I can best support you.

  • Absolutely! My clinical focus is to support the breast/chest feeding relationship, but I know that 'the thick of it' looks different for every family. Whether by choice or by necessity, your journey may involve pumping, combo-feeding, or supplementing with formula.

If your baby is struggling with bottle preference or you are navigating the complexities of supplementation, you don't have to figure it out alone. My priority is ensuring your baby is well-fed and that you feel confident in the way you nurture them. We will work together to create a sustainable plan that honors your goals, silences the outside pressure, and fits the reality of your daily life.

  • It is never too late. While the early days are a common time for support, new challenges often arise during growth spurts, teething, or the return to work. Whether your baby is four days old or four months old, we can always work toward a more comfortable and sustainable feeding relationship.

  • No referral is necessary. Because I operate as a private practice, you can book a consultation directly whenever you feel you need support. I do, however, believe in collaborative care; with your permission, I am happy to share my clinical findings with your pediatrician or midwife to ensure your entire medical team is on the same page.

  • Preparing for our visit is simple, and there is no need to tidy your home or "get ready" in a formal way—I expect your space to be lived-in!

To help us make the most of our time together, please have any regular supplies you use nearby, such as extra diapers, your pump/flanges, small blankets, or bottles if you are using them. Ideally, try to time your baby’s rhythm so they are ready for a feeding about 30 minutes into our appointment; this gives us a chance to chat before we dive into hands-on support.

At the time of booking, you’ll be asked to provide your baby’s age and your primary goals for our visit. Once confirmed, you’ll receive a welcome email with a link to a more detailed intake form. While having this information in advance helps me better prepare for our session, I know that newborns and infants keep parents incredibly busy! If you don’t have the time or energy to complete it beforehand, please don’t worry—we can simply go through it together at the beginning of our appointment.

  • My goal is to observe your "real life" flow. We will start by discussing your history and your specific goals. I’ll perform a gentle clinical assessment of your baby (including an oral evaluation) and a breast exam if relevant. Usually, we will observe a full feeding session where we can work on positioning, latch, and comfort in real-time. We’ll end by co-creating a sustainable care plan that feels manageable for your family.

  • Yes! In fact, I highly encourage it. Lactation support doesn't happen in a vacuum, and having your partner, a grandparent, or a trusted support person involved can be incredibly helpful. When the people closest to you understand the "why" behind our plan, they are better equipped to offer the practical and emotional support you need between our sessions.

Older siblings are always welcome, too! Building a new routine is a family affair, and I want everyone to feel comfortable in the space. Whether your support people want to learn the ropes of positioning, ask their own questions, or simply be a steady presence for you, everyone in your inner circle is welcome.

  • Initial consultations are 90 minutes. This allows us plenty of time to move at your baby’s pace without feeling rushed. Follow-up sessions are 60 minutes, focusing on fine-tuning the plan we’ve already put in place.

  • In Ontario, private lactation services are typically covered under Extended Health Care (EHC) plans rather than OHIP. While I am a private-pay provider and do not bill insurance companies directly, I strive to make the reimbursement process, if applicable for you, as simple as possible.

Following our consultation, I will provide you with a detailed medical receipt via the Jane App. This receipt includes all the essential information your insurer requires.

Some insurance providers like Sun Life or Manulife accept claims with this receipt. I recommend checking with your specific provider to see how they handle out-of-hospital lactation support.

While I provide all the necessary documentation to help you seek reimbursement, please keep in mind that every insurance plan is unique. Because of this, I am unable to guarantee the outcome of any individual claim, but I am always happy to provide any additional session details your provider might request.

  • I know that life with a newborn is unpredictable. If you or your baby are unwell, or if a sudden conflict arises, I ask for as much notice as possible (ideally no less than 12 hours) so I can offer that time slot to another family in need. We will work together to find the next available opening to get you the support you need.

Still have questions? I know that feeding a baby doesn't always fit into a neat list of answers. If your specific situation isn’t covered here, or if you just want to see if we’re a good fit, please reach out. I’m here to help you find the path that feels right for your family.
